The February 2025 Creative Gathering Collages

Days 16 – 30

For the second half of the gathering, I explored the desert landscape, minimal abstracts and florals. Along the way I moved from collage mixed with digital collage, to digital collage alone. Pattern remained a constant.

For the last three days of the month, I reworked old paintings. These are from 2015. Can they really be that old? I started a class, that reminds us to revisit old work, and see if we can adjust or update it, to use for different purposes, such as licensing.

Here are the originals. The last, was a tiny bookmark.

I learned a lot this month, and had fun along the way.
Surprisingly, I never hit that 3rd week, “I wish we were done.”, wall. Very nice!

I have to admit, I miss watercolor and I am anxious to get back to my brushes.

We’ve reached the mid-point of the February 2025 edition of The Creative Gathering. High time I share what I have been up to.

I am working in mixed media collage. 4 x 4 inches. Day 14 is 8 x 8 inches. For the most part they include painted papers (some patterned), hand-drawn elements, digital patterns and digitally created elements.

The three heart designs are completely digital. They are designs for quilt blocks, I added faux stitching, to give an idea of what they might look like when finished.

I didn’t plan to, but I have fallen into a pattern of three’s. I’ll try to continue it for the rest of the month. As usual, I started out with a defined idea. But the art has veered into new directions. Let’s see where the next path leads!

My path this month was a winding one. I started loose and organic. Sketchy. Day four found me heavy into digital patterns and textures. That one was a lot of work. I managed to regain a looser feel at times. But often I was much more stylized than I had planned to be.

I struggled with abstracts. I refused to give up though. I did ten. Triple that if I count all the failures. Of those, there are only two I consider very good. Days 9 & 22. Even though it is slightly goofy, I also like day 17, the Kachina. I didn’t know what I was gonna do with that mess of a blob.

Having considered my favorites for the month, I am having a hard time selecting two for the group board. Many of my favorites were chosen as much for what I learned, as for how they look. And I have to laugh, that my go to yellow was only prominent in 6 paintings. I know Val is thrilled. Shades of pink and warm white ruled this month.

September was a challenging month. Sometimes frustrating. I learned something new each day, with each piece. Learning is always awesome, in my book. Score!
