Step one done

It is time once again for Kat Sloma’s Liberate Your Art Postcard Exchange. I have participated every year, since the beginning in 2011. Kat’s exchange was one of the very first places I dared to share my art. There is still one day to sign up and the deadline to mail your cards is March 14, 2015. Join us!

Artists in any medium. Photography, painting, poetry, typography, jewelry, sculpture, knitting, cooking, illustration – you name it. If you can have an image of your art printed on a postcard, you are in!

You send 5 printed postcards of your art with a message written on the back, along with address labels and return postage. Kat and her crew of volunteers swap them around, and you receive 6 postcards in the mail over several weeks: 5 from participants, plus one from Kat!

You can have your cards printed professionally, or make them yourself. I always make mine.

I printed the images on photo paper, and the back of the post card is on card stock. I set them up on a sheet of 8 1/2 x 11 inch paper (in Publisher). Four to a sheet. Next I will attach the fronts to the backs, and trim as needed. Double sided tape and a paper-cutter makes assembly easy peasy! ( I blurred the message so it will be a surprise.)

I make extras and a lot of us do swaps on the side. I will share the cards I receive with you as they come in.

YAY snail mail!

Y’all made my day!

I was so blessed this year to have so many extra swaps in the Liberate Your Art postcard swap. These are the last, from three talented Southern women.  Such a treat! Thank you all for sharing your art with me!

Teresa lives in Georgia. She surprised me by including several cool decorative papers for me to have fun with. Yay! Don’t you jut love when the leaves start to change color? On the back of her card was this quote by Albert Camus.

Autumn is a second spring, when every leaf is a flower.

Chandra added color to her card with Washi tape and an owl sticker. I love old worn out, and rusty things. Knowing that they have a history, and wondering what that is, makes them so appealing. Her site is full of great stuff! She has taken part in many art swaps, and shares the work of others on her blog.

Kat and I exchanged cards in 2013 and we have kept in touch ever since. Chatting sometimes very late at night, when we should both be in bed. You can see more of Kat’s fabulous nature photos on flickr. She had this quote on her card,

No one sees the world with your eyes, so express what you see!
No one has your voice, so let us hear you through your art. Create!

So let’s go… get busy!

Create something today. Anything… even if it becomes a glorious mess.

Have fun and enjoy!

Liberate Your Art Blog Hop 2014

Time really does fly. It felt like a quick week, but it was really close to a month of liberated art arriving in my mailbox. The first card was postmarked March 17th. And the most recent was stamped April 11th.

Thank you Kat, and many thanks to your helpers, for making the Liberate Your Art postcard swap happen. What a joy to receive artistic correspondence! I have to admit, that I do not often think of sending a real card or letter. I email often and send ecards for special days. Sitting here, I am wondering why I have never thought to send a postcard to family and friends. I still have some cards. I think that is how I will put them to use. I will send a small surprise.

For those of you visiting my blog for the first time, Thank you! If you scroll down, you will see my earlier posts on the cards I have received with links to all the artists. I have lost count, but I think I still have a few that are on the way.

I received both of these cards on the same day. Good day, Sunshine! Siobhan’s card is a “Dream”. There are gorgeous magenta petals that have fallen to the table. The soft focus gives me a peaceful, relaxed feeling. For some reason, I started thinking of candle light and a warm bath. Something I honestly never do, but wouldn’t that just make you feel so pampered and serene?

Sherry included a quote from Blake, “Exuberance is beauty!” I love that. I also love her motto: Conceive, Believe, Achieve! Her card is bold and bright and some of the flowers are 3-D! OK, maybe just 2-D. I love these blue blooms! It is hard to see, but there is stitching along the left side as well.  Mixed media maven!

I count myself lucky, this is the second year I have swapped with Siobhan and Sherry. Thank you both for sharing your art and photography with me! Such a delight!

I am so thankful to be a part of this Liberating event.  So much fun creating the cards I send out. Such a nice surprise when one is received. Kat treated us all to this gorgeous card. I just love her work!
