Last week I designed two collections for the Spoonflower Granny Square challenge. I had no idea how I was going to create a faux-crochet effect. Looking at the challenge entries, I am amazed at the different ways designers achieved this.
My floral granny square has hundreds of layers. Each line, each petal. Whew! I knew that there would be lots of bright, colorful designs. So I decided to go with something softer. I am very happy with how this design turned out.
Voting is open now through the 30th. Yikes! The 30th? The 30-Day Creative Challenge is right around the corner! 🙂
I designed the basket weave first. And I think I will go back and increase the size of the pom-pom. It seems too small. WIth this design, I think the brighter colors work better. Which do you like best?
Twitchy Witch received 13 votes. Seems Appropriate. Haha. Unlucky 13 . Thanks so much for voting! I appreciate your support so much 🙂 Enjoy! 🙂
Hmmm … I commented here yesterday, and I guess it didn’t go through? Anyway, I voted yesterday, and I was amazed at all the creative talent over there. Wow! Who would have thought that granny squares would inspire so many different compositions!
So sorry Karin! Thanks so much for taking the time to comment again. And many thanks for taking the time to vote!
You are right, so many different interpretations, and techniques. I am amazed at the ones that look real, but are painted digitally.
I’m so glad you had fun viewing them as well.
Happy weekend Karin, and happy painting!
As a long-time crocheter, I am highly impressed with your faux-crochet granny squares, Sheila! Way to go!
Thanks so much DOtty. I am super impressed that you crochet. I have tried to learn, but it is beyond my capacity. 🙂
I am amazed by how much work you put into these designs – so many layers , then different colors – wow. Well done Sheila!
Thank you Val. 🙂 Have a super weekend!
