A Visit With Natasha

This super sunny yellow tree was in front of me when I parked at Hobby Lobby. Such a pretty shape. Like a Japanese dancer. I didn’t get it right. I’d love to do a full painting of it though.

Yesterday was a busy day. Capped off by a visit with Natasha Papousek. A longtime LYA friend. In fact I have her 2013 post card on my inspiration wall. Natasha was on her way to a class in Sedona.

She arrived later than she had planned, so we had a short time to see the sights. After a quick bite, we headed to Prescott. We caught the sunset view from the Prescott Casino and Resort on top of the hill. Thumb Butte is left of center.

Next we went to Watson Lake. In fading light, we hurried to snap some shots. Thank goodness for Photoshop and the ability to brighten things up!

Natasha in the landscape.

There was so much more I would have liked to show her. She mentioned coming back again soon for a longer stay to explore the area more. With hiking, galleries, museums… plenty to do!

Natasha is a henna artist and she is blessed with the privilege of working in gorgeous downtown San Diego at Seaport Village. She is also well-traveled, well-educated, and even lived in Hawaii for a time. You can see the photos on her blog. Gorgeous! She is truly one of the most interesting women I have ever met!

Terry’s card is so lovely! It is an in progress “slow stitch” project. All done by hand. She has attached a worn, paper-thin vintage handkerchief to a sturdier fabric. A pink linen tablecloth. She is still creating this new piece but thought is was pretty enough to use for LYA. I agree! Very sweet and delicate, the details. From Gresham Oregon.

The birds is a wonderful watercolor from Christine Brooks in Flagstaff AZ. I love Christine’s work ! An addition to my growing Christine collection!

Abstract, Terry Owenby. LYA 2017 Side Swap.

Received this wonderful side swap. Terry tells me this is an unfinished painting that she cropped digitally. She took a Jesse Reno class last year (Portland, OR), but was unable to finish during the class. She took the paintings home and they were forgotten.

In the swap we are always looking for the interesting cosmic connections, between the sender and the receiver. There is always something that binds us. Silly, but still.

I forgot to post Terry’s card. I even emailed to let her know I received it, and that I would be posting. DUH! It would still be forgotten, if Terry had not replied to my email. I’m trying to retrace my steps, useless I know. I put her card in the scanner, was interrupted, and that was that. The whole time I was writing yesterday’s post, I knew there was something I was forgetting.

I love this card. Love the colors, the wonky shapes and scratches. And the “stitch” stems. The deep blue-black is welcoming to me. And the bright berry reds are pure fun. I also really love the fact that Terry rescued an unfinished and forgotten piece.

It’s raining postcards! Seems right. It just now started raining big ol’ fat rain, as Forrest would say. The sun is shining in the distance, so I know it won’t last long.

Stopping to enjoy. Some thunder too.

I was all set to show these off in the colorful blooms outside, but nature nixed that idea. Instead I placed them on a pillow I ordered from Zazzle, I think you might recognize it.

The colorful card on top is from Terry Owenby in Portland Oregon. She created this work of art with a Gelli Plate print and collage. Gorgeous isn’t it? I love the vivid colors and simplified shapes. Just so fun! On the back she included this:

The lovely lavender card is a gift from Carol Edan and traveled all the way from Israel. I love the abstract landscape. The depth, the mood, just wonderful! It is an oil she painted during the January Leslie Seata painting challenge. Visit Carol’s site to see more of her amazing work. This is another favorite.

On the bottom, a colorful card from Lynn Radford. I know I am not the only one who gets excited at the sight of a colorful bunch of pencils! The quote on the front:

The back of Lynn’s card is just as colorful. Lynn I envy your tidy penmanship! I am going to have to try extra hard to make mine legible for you! Visit Lynn’s site and check out her “environmentally conscious journey”. Lynn kept her address a secret, which is a great idea. Her swap will go on even longer! Lynn your card will go out today!

The musical card, is from a friend who is close by. Natasha Monahan Papousek lives in San Diego just south of me. We have swapped before, and I always look forward to her cards.

Natasha plays the ukulele. On her recent trip to Hawaii, she learned the phrase “My dog has fleas” is used to remember the tuning of her instrument. Definitely memorable don’t you think? This card brings back memories of my trip to Hawaii – JOY!
