Spoonflower Fashion Fabric Contest

This week yellow got in my head, and refused to leave. I started painting, with lilies and dahlias as my reference. After painting true flowers, I started to play, and these loose scribbles are what emerged. For this challenge, I wanted something bold, and bright with a hint of island. Clean and modern, feminine but not frilly. I can see this as a great silk scarf, worn with a sleek white suit or a body hugging knit dress.

Voting for this contest is open from August 15th – 20th. Spoonflower has changed their procedure, and it is super easy to vote now. There is just one page, and it takes just a few seconds to scroll through. You can only vote once, but you can share the link with…everyone. I really do appreciate your votes. And I would love to hear what you think about this one!

Lull’d in these Flowers

I know a bank where the wild thyme blows,
Where oxlips and the nodding violet grows,
Quite over canopied with luscious woodbine,
With sweet musk-roses and eglantine:
There sleeps Titania sometime of the night,
Lull’d in these flowers with dances and delight.

~ William Shakespeare

Spoonflower found this weeks design challenge inspiration in William Shakespeare’s play, A Midsummer nights dream. With such an abundant source of imagery, they decided to limit the palette. Maybe this was to keep the designers heads from exploding.

So this is what we were given. Midsummer palette

And this is what I came up with. My entry is sample #1 the dark, solid background. For those of you who are interested, voting begins Thursday June 20th and ends on the 25th. I am so thankful to you for taking the time to search through and find my design to place your vote!
