I’m having fun. Working on repeating patterns using my Clear Creek piece. What do ‘ya think? The original was watercolor and gouache on Yupo.
An artsy Blog Hop continues – Karin Naylor has featured me on her blog today. She also introduces two more FaBuLOus artists. I learned more about one of my long time favorites, and discovered a new favorite too! I’m not gonna tell you who they are. You are going to have to see for yourself.

I should have named this Urchin Sea study#1. I am going to be really honest and tell you that the vision in my head, is not what you are seeing here. This was a great learning experience, I know what I will do differently next time.

The painted piece actually looks like this. I wanted pattern to be the dominant element. But when I saw the finished piece. It just looked, unfinished to me.
So I got creative in Photoshop. And part of the “mixed media” is the addition of a background. I placed yesterday’s painting behind the urchins, and I added slightly heavier borders as well. Very graphic, the black. Not very painterly perhaps.
I tend to lean to the graphic.
I will be painting this again. I have in mind the idea to use it as a repeating pattern. I used copper on two of the urchins, it never scans well. The grey looking color is actually a soft cream, and it looks better than it shows here.
I want to thank you for following my progress this month. I have so enjoyed hearing from you, our conversations really mean a lot to me. The best part of the challenge is that it is a shared journey, and new friends are often made.

I haven’t yet turned this painting into a repeating pattern. But I think it would be beautiful on fabric. These mock-ups will give you an idea. It would make a great woman’s dress as well, don’t you think?
