WOW! After two bad, I mean REALLY bad right-into-the-round-file pieces… this! Well thank goodness. Meant I could finally go to bed!

I started with watercolor pencil, and clean water splattered on the paper. Towards the end I was tempted to add watercolor pencil to bring out leaf shapes, but I decided to forgo the chance of botching it! I thought my stems looked a bit too beefy, but I like the overall look of this. I like the way the colors mixed, and there are some interesting blooms as well.

Hallelujah AMEN!

Day 22 – Desert Dusk

Desert Dusk was inspired by a long lost treasure I found while unpacking. A painting by Sara Steele. I had one of her calendars. The patches of tape on the back tell me I must have just stuck it up on the wall. I know I had it when I was in art school. It has always been a favorite. As is New Mexico.

Sorry about the terrible copy, but you get the idea. I couldn’t find a link to this online. Visit her site, there is a slideshow of some of her amazing works. Her colors are so decadent. How can you not fall in love with watercolor after seeing her flowers? Well, I did. Even before I knew much of anything about watercolor.

Once I painted this, I quickly did two more. Just having too much fun with colors! These hills are two shades of indigo. I lined them with pencil, which doesn’t show here, but I like it in person.

I managed to do five really good pieces yesterday, so I won’t have to use the ones that I am not so happy with. At least not until I get back. I also designed a tag request to be printed for the shower. I am sure I will be printing and cutting them out on Friday! For gift bags or, well, I will find out soon. It was two in the afternoon before I started the shower gift. But I finally had my idea all set! I still had to do a mani/pedi, a load of laundry, write 3 posts and shower before getting to bed early. Whew! But I did manage to sneak in a ten minute power nap!

Well, I am off! Back to San Diego and Jenny’s baby shower lollapalooza! Sure to be fun. I will be checking in on comments, but I may not be able to respond until I get back. Thank you in advance to those of you who visit! You really mean a lot to me!

I look forward to catching up on the art created each day and letting you all know how much I love it! Have an awesome weekend!

Day 21 – Keep On The Sunny Side

I have a feeling I have linked to this video before. But the song came to mind while I worked on this, so I am sharing it again. Hope it will add a skip to your step!

Thought about getting away from the linear layout. Not sure if I like it. But it doesn’t help that I goofed the sky. Ended up too dark. Doesn’t add any light between the stems.

Funny, but I seem to be posting a lot of pieces that I am not completely happy with. Well, there are still some to come. I will have a count at the end, but there are at least five. That is almost a quarter of the work for the month.

Yet, I am posting them. And I am not feeling, in any way, like they are failures. Not sure if that is because I had to work ahead. (Wanted to.) Or if it is that I am becoming more comfortable talking about the learning process. Thinking about the process, instead of being focused on the end result only.

I had fun while painting this, and that counts!

Well here it is the day before I leave on my trip. And I STILL need to paint my gift for the baby shower. Sometimes I work well under pressure. Let’s hope this is one of them!
