Postcard Preference

Time for me to decide which postcard I will send to the Visual Aids 17th ANNUAL POSTCARDS FROM THE EDGE exhibition.  I need your help, because I have six favorites and I can only send one card.

I just finished these two. They may seem totally unrelated. I have wanted to paint a tree in our neighbors back yard. It just glows all day long. It is taller than the rest of the trees, and it even seems to glow when the sky is grey and the sun is hidden.

I spoke with a friend in Montana the same day I painted this tree. It was snowing sideways, the winds were so strong. I started this next one as an abstract, trying to use some leftover paint. Obviously blustery was on my mind.

I actually think I like it better upside down. What do you think? I can see a hint of tall mountains, maybe a lake in the distance.

Here they all are together. No particular order.

If you have time, let me know in the comments which you like best.

There is so much for me to be thankful for. I hope for you as well. I know I am thankful for all of you who follow my blog, and who take the time to comment. Your participation is a true blessing!

Happy Thanksgiving!

God Bless!

Postcards

Sitting in on an online pattern design class, and working on postcards. Not really a good idea, I have to admit. Several have turned out rather blah. I may be able to save them as backgrounds, if not I can start over with a layer of acrylic.

This is eye-popping. A contender for submission. I don’t work with red much, but the tube jumped out of the caddy and into my hand. This is actually a “save”. There is a bit of texture under the red, barely shows here, but it really adds depth in the original. Grab your shades before scrolling down, this one is really bright.

Oops! Forgot to mention that the “brown” is actually copper, and it adds a bit of shine throughout. It’s a shame it never translates well in the scanning process. When I scanned this one in, well let me just show you…

Red, scanned image.

The colors were horrible. Most often when I scan images in,  an adjustment to the vibrance will make the scan look like the original piece of art. With this, I had to use the curves adjustment as well as the color balance. I am sure it is due to the intensity of these hues. I just played with the different adjustment options in Photoshop until I found the best representation. (Image – Adjustments)

For any artist who is new to Photoshop, you should feel free to play with these options. You can try them on your image, and if you don’t like the change, you can just “cancel” out of the pop up box. You do need to rasterize your image before these options will be available to you.

One more card that is ready. I may use it as a background for some collage. I can add pattern as well.

There is still time for artists to submit postcards. You can find all the information here,  Visual Aids 17th ANNUAL POSTCARDS FROM THE EDGE.

Happy day ya’ll!

Adios October

I am a couple of days early I know. But I am hoping that November will renew whatever bit of talent I thought I had. This month has been crummy all around.

Unexpected car repairs – CHA CHING! Not just for me, but for everyone in the house. We have been playing musical cars for weeks. Yup, I think a double-deep-dip in the ol’ treat bag is needed. Now I just need to find a kid with overflowing treats.

October has never been my favorite month. Playing dodge the scary movies on TV. Or the Linda Blair shuffle. I am ready for Hallmark channels countdown to Christmas. A month filled with sappy, happy endings!

A few more attempts here. Working on some postcard art for Visual Aids. Another “map”, but I prefer the earlier layout – square. This seems a bit “scrunched”. The start of each of these was twig scribbled black acrylic. Marks without a rhyme or reason.

The marks on this reminded me of the postcard I submitted last year. That one sold at the show.

I started with glorious, imperfect lines on the card below. And then I mucked it up by working it to death. Should have just left it alone.

May your Halloween be sweetly spooky! Save me a Kit Kat and a Baby Ruth! Gee wiz – did you know Kit Kats came in all these flavors? What are your favorite treats at Halloween?
