I need to start working on a set of postcards for Kat Sloma’s Liberate Your Art Postcard Swap. This is the third time I have participated, and it will be here before I know it.

I really had fun with this one. It was pretty simple. I thought it would be quicker, and maybe that means I overworked it. I am pleased with the result.

The loose hand still needs work. I debated about adding some pen work, but decided that would defeat my intention.

I reworked the painting I did yesterday. I had the vase sitting on the edge of the table and ready to fall off. Now it is firmly planted. I did not go higher with the edge, because it would have come too close the base of the flowers. I needed to maintain a little breathing room. Next time I will make the vase taller, and perhaps angle the table edge.

I was able to do this, because I was adding to the dark area. I went in with a damp brush, and lifted the hard edge, “erasing” the line I had created. Then I went in with more of the dark mixture. I had that ready before  I started lifting. I had to go over the entire area again to avoid unwanted lines or blooms. As you can see there is a lot more dark, as well as added texture. I really love how it turned out.

Thanks for stopping by!

30 In 30, day 27

I had so much fun with my Sunflower! I have decided that I am going to do more of these too! Smaller, and whole, and they will be used to create a fabric/surface pattern. I think this has the makings of a great gift bag, gift wrap, shower curtain, or rug. Quite a few possibilities.

I think it may need some shadow on the darker petals that sit behind the bright ones. But I did not want it it to get too dark, so I left this one alone. This painting came together in less than an hour. I must be learning to work faster huh? Something to add to my list!

One thing I really love about this is that the viewer can chose which direction to display it. Would be interesting to know what looks best to others, we all have our own vision. What do you think? How do you like it best?

Tell me how you would display it!

I did not know that Sunflowers were considered a proper option for a memorial service. This is my second entry for the RAG Memory: International Mail Art Exhibition and Swap.

They are acceptable if the service or memorial has less of a somber tone and more of a celebratory one. Many families choose to celebrate the life of their loved one. Sunflowers offer a brighter tone, but still capture the ethereal feeling of a memorial. They are symbolic of a life lived with happiness and joy and, often, simplicity.

Don’t you just think that is a terrific idea!? When I was a kid, I saw a movie where someone had passed away, and the final scene was of the service. A New Orleans style band was parading down the street. Slow and somber at first, but the music turned loud and happy and everyone was dancing as they paraded by. I decided that is how I wanted my service to be. No sadness, just lots of great music and fun.

See you all tomorrow! I very much appreciate you stopping by. Only a few days left in the challenge. And I have at least a dozen paintings I wanted to do. I have 3 canvas panels started, and the 12 x 12 wrapped canvas I started too. But I have three portraits I would like to do, so we will see what happens.

Enjoy the day!

You can tell by the yellow drips, the direction this was painted. I think it works better in landscape.

A look from this direction, and there is definitely a Cars character staring back at you. A bus or a cab maybe. An older guy with spectacles and one visible tooth.

I am in love with Inktense Deep Indigo. Indigo LOVE. I would say LUV, but it is a serious color and requires proper spelling. I want to use it for everything. So many values, I just love all the shadows, and the almost blacks. There is usually a bit left on my palette, I never clean it away. Heaven forbid some of that luscious color should sit unadored at the bottom of a trash can.

I have even saved tissues from captured indigo spills. I am going to use them in collage. I used to tell people that Cobalt blue was the color of my soul. But now I think it is Deep Indigo. Does that mean I have mellowed? Or rotted? ha ha

Thanks for stopping by, I really enjoy hearing from you! I will be gone for the rest of the day, and I won’t be able to take a look, but do treat yourself to the great art and artists taking part in this challenge.

Enjoy!
