30 In 30, Day Four

I started packing today for my stay in Escondido. Still debating about taking my scanner. I am sort of addicted to my scanner. I started a 12 x 12 canvas. Laid in a sky and ocean. Not sure yet where it is going, but it’s a beginning.

My painting today is a 4 x 6 postcard, for the Milliande’s Art Community for Women, Birthday Postcard exchange I am a part of. It is watercolor on card stock. ( I recycled some blank cards I had by turning them inside out.)

Sadly, I received word today that the site is going to be gone soon. Milliande will be continuing some of the groups. And I am hoping that my group will decide to carry on together, at least until the end of the year. My birthday is in January, and I received such gorgeous cards. I will continue to send them for the remaining birthdays no matter what happens.

Keeping it short today, trying to meet a submission deadline – wish me luck. 🙂

30 In 30, Day Three

10:19 PM, and it was another mucky day. I tried to save the portrait. Didn’t. I painted some large yellow and orange flowers wet on wet. Those dried OOOUU-gly.  I tried an abstract. More muckiness.

I painted a single large magenta flower on canvas board, with a palette knife.  Ruined that too.

Finally I pulled out some photo paper and painted a few fairly pretty little flowers, that I may be able to use for a fabric design.

So today I am turning in a painting I did previously. I know it is cheating. I did paint today. I just did not create a usable painting.

This is acrylic on a 12 x 12 canvas. It took me under 30 minutes. The background is a metallic, and there are bits of it in the body of the trees. In the side view, you can see how they catch the light.

I am glad I accepted Leslie’s challenge. I’m just having some sort of painter’s block. We’ll see what tomorrow brings!

30 in 30, Day Two

Today was a struggle. I started a 9 x 12 portrait. One that I have been wanting to do for a while now. Right now it is in the ugly-time-to-trash it phase. I was trying to paint large and loose. Well, after five hours, I can no longer hope for loose. The thing is, the face is looking pretty good, just the rest of it is muck. So maybe I can save it tomorrow, and crop it way down, and have the gift for a friend I was trying for.

I am reminding myself, that watercolor is a difficult medium. I know what I am doing wrong… but It is not helping me to get it right. It is 8:24. I need to post my piece here to be able to post it on Leslie’s site as well. Done is better than perfect. Sometimes. Right?

I am not happy with this either. I toiled diligently, so it is going to have to do. So happy for all of my friends who are participating! Your work today is so awesome!
