Watercolor, gouache, Le Pen, and watercolor pencils. I also used a stamp to add texture. I wasn’t sure about posting this. A little too sappy with heart-shaped flowers. But hey, why not. I painted two more pieces, and I wasn’t sure about those either. Maybe one of them will look better to me tomorrow. Back to number one with fresh eyes, and now I can see the redeeming qualities.

Rain is due overnight and into the next couple of days. Gave me the idea for the title.

Week one is done! Went by much too fast.  Could feel that way because I have two gifts I need to finish, my brother’s wedding photos to edit, and I decided to enter a surface design competition at the last minute.

Happy creating to you all!

Looking through the daily paintings, I was drawn  to the plethora of floras. I tried to hold out until week two to start painting flowers. Here’s proof that I caved.

After struggling with reworking the cactus, I felt the need to loosen up. So I splattered some clean water on the paper. Splattered and spread paint. I worked fast and forced myself to STOP. Stop before I was lost in details. This is not as loose as I had in mind. But I am pleased with the result.

Hope everyone had a terrific weekend! Mine was pretty good. A visit from my brother and his wife, peaches and raspberry pancakes from IHOP, and a PBS Downtown Abbey Marathon. I couldn’t ask for more!

Happy creating to you!

My Values Aren’t Showing

Tempted to call this a work in progress. Have a try at improving it. I enjoyed the process, but I was not entirely successful. My foreground is  not “fore” enough, and my shadows could use some tweaking.

This is from a photo taken at the Chapel of the Cross in Sedona. A day trip with my recent visitors. This grouping was at the bottom of the hill, beneath the Chapel. I was so in love with the purple prickly pears, I didn’t even notice the nopales heart. Did you notice?

Have you ever eaten prickly pear or nopales? My good friend Naomi makes nopales like her grandmother’s. With hamburger and red chili. Very tasty side dish. I would love to try prickly pear.

Something is not quite right. Just couldn’t figure it out. So I took a look at the desaturated image. Hmm, that might be the answer. Now, how to fix it. I will think on it a day or two. Suggestions are always welcome.
