Snow And Mo’

Luck was on our side. Roads were clear, and my brother and his wife were able to spend Thanksgiving with us. The snow started early on Friday, and by noon, it was sunny and calm. Perfect weather for a snowball fight before they headed back to Phoenix. I watched it from inside the warm!

We had about 4 inches, Prescott had double that.

These hills are almost back to green now. I love how the snow reveals hidden details. Mingus is still covered. The roads are dry, and the yard is half melted. It doesn’t last long, usually. My kind of snow!

Now for the Mo’

I am having a fabulous kick-off to December! I was featured in last week’s ALL ABOUT YOU. Janine Vangool’s weekly newsletter. It is always chock full of creative inspiration. Color me happy. 🙂 Click on the link if you would like to sign up. She has open calls for submissions.
Share YOUR art! Thank you, Janine, for all that you do to support artists!

Friday I opened an awesome surprise email. My good friend Chandra Lynn honored me with a feature on her blog, Pics And Posts. Along with my piece of art, she shared her own, and also one by my good friend Christine Brooks! Tres Amigas! Chandra’s posts are always heartwarming, inspirational and often gorgeous. I have learned so much from her and sometimes find myself in tears. The GOOD kind. Thank you, Chandra, for sharing your JOY!

Last week I took part in Louise Gale’s “heART Exchange“. I sent out three handmade postcards and will receive 3 in return. I was having so much fun, I made a couple of extras for friends.

I am so in love with these colors right now. I kept playing, and a have a handful in the works. Haha. I also spent a couple of days on a small tree. Just some creative late-night play. I am almost out of Green Gold. Haha.

Global heART Postcard Swap

Louise Gale hosts a global postcard swap several times each year. The Global heART Exchange is so fun, and very easy to take part in. You are given three names, and create three cards to share. And in return, you get three postcards in your mailbox. The theme this round was “Love”.

For my cards, I used acrylic paint and pen. I worked with wood block stamps from Michaels. Apparently they no longer sell the blocks, but here is a video that will show you what I am talking about.

I did not know that you needed to use a foam mat underneath the block, and did not have anything that I could use. So I struggled with making an impression. I used a heart, paisley and feather design. The impressions were broken up, not solid. But I really like the effect, sort of aged and worn. The feather design did not turn out at all, so I traced over it with a pen. I added polka dots, hearts with dot borders, and the words love, lovely, loved.

The first fabulous card I received came from Phredkite in Texas. Hello Texas! I hope you can see the bamboo embossing. It runs the length of the card. So much more pretty in person! The sweet and simple message: “Be love!”

Beautiful!

From Susi Sanlier in Germany, one sweet surprise after another. The envelope was adorned with beautiful watercolor rose trimmed in gold pen. On the back a sticker that said, “All you need is love, and vegan chocolate”.

Inside, two gorgeous postcards, and her business card that is also a tiny piece of art. This first is watercolor, acrylic and pen I believe. Lovely springtime fresh! I didn’t remember to scan the back, but it is just as lovely. On the back:

“Let love fill your garden & you will reap utter happiness!

This next card is alcohol inks I believe. The scan does not do it justice, as the colors are metallic. And you know those never show well in photos. Susi did several of these tree affirmation cards, you can see them here. On the back:

“May LOVE be always by your side this spring.”

And for dessert, this lovable little lighthouse.

Susi also has terrific illustrated recipes on They Draw and Cook. Labskaus anyone?

My third treat is not a postcard. But that won’t surprise you when you see who it is from. She has her own way of doing things. It is a tiny treasure from the daring and dear, Dotty Seiter. The ex Michaels framer in me is truly appreciative of Dotty’s cutting and centering skills! On the back, as one might expect, words of profound wisdom.

Ruby used to say you just always had to believe
you’d find as many answers as it was questions.
Kaye Gibbons, A virtuous woman

This piece of art is five layers deep. Approximately 3 and 1/2 inches square. Creme matboard, black foam board, white paper, and decorative papers. On the back is a jagged edged, rough textured paper with the quote on it.  It feels almost like leather, but knowing Dotty recycles, I suspect it might be the inside of a cereal box.

Each of these cards includes something have a fondness for. And each message, feels as if it was chosen just for me. The universe works in mysterious and wonderful ways!

Do be sure and visit the exchange site. Sign up to receive notice of future events. You have the opportunity to decide later if you want to take part or not. You can take part in as many, or as few as you are able. Hope to see you there!

The global postcard ‘heART exchange” is on again. I am late to the party, but I made the deadline. Whew! Even managed to make bookmarks from the scraps! Louise Gale hosts, she is amazing! One of my art Super Heroes! I have taken part before, and maybe you have too. If not, check it out! There are several swaps each year.

Very simple. Create three postcards, and get three in return. I created these with stamps, texture sheets, a nail head, a stylus, and a palette knife.

I was under the gun, trying to beat the postwoman. Save myself a trip into town. In my haste I made about 10 mistakes.  Addressed the envelope upside down, then forgot to take photos, and had to cut one open with a xacto. Ha ha! The recipients will have a good laugh. And now I am hoping that I did not switch two of the cards, while I put them into the envelopes! Fingers crossed!

Can you see where I had to squeeze forgotten letters in? LOL In my defense, I was also receiving important news at the time, so a bit distracted. Yes, I can spell thankful. LOL

Happy Messy Desk

Well, I did not want to share earlier, and no worries. All is well. Or will be soon. Our Thanksgiving was a bust. But we will all be together in celebration next weekend.

My folks both came down with the flu. They have not been this ill since 1993. Just heard from the doctors that Pete has pneumonia, and they will be keeping him in the hospital for three days. Scary, but glad to know he is in good hands. They have him on oxygen as his levels were low. He is also diabetic, so we have to be extra careful.

Mom is heading home with antibiotics for treatment. They are both at the tail end of the flu, thank goodness. Contracted from neighbors at Bible study.

I won’t be visiting him in the hospital. I have meant to post about this, but the holidays did not seem the right time.

Good news is, I have FINALLY found a doctor that knows what is causing my chronic cough.

HALLELUJAH! AMEN! THANK YOU SWEET JESUS!

The gerd is one aspect, and the acids from my stomach may have damaged my lungs some, still waiting on test results.  I found paperwork from previous visits in So. Cal., stating that my esophagus is ‘dilated distally’. I showed him the finding, and now we can do something about that too. The doctors never mentioned that to me before, we just moved on to scheduling for the next visit.

And I have asthma. Hallelujah, a definitive diagnosis! And my lungs are down to 25%. Not good, not good at all. But he is confident he can turn things around.

When I left the doctor’s office, I cried. Gave thanks to God over and over and over. Called a friend. Called my Mom. And cried some more. I have had these issues since 2007. The cough is what led me looking for an answer. And led to my Lupus diagnosis. A late December cold. Overworked and not sleeping enough. You know how it is. But three months later, I still had a cough.

I had honestly, just about given up.

So no hospital for me! I can’t afford to add to the list. But I am sorry, I won’t be able to keep Pete company. ( I know he won’t want me there. 😉 )

Prayers most welcome!

Late in posting this, and I shared it on IG. But you can get a closer look here. A slightly different view of Mingus.
