I always remember this poem wrong. It is one of my favorites, but one word always gets replaced in my mind. Maybe it is all those years in Choir singing “Silent Night”. I was trying to be so sure, I would write the correct word on the canvas. As you can see, I goofed again. I am laughing at myself, I was being so very careful.

I am the quiet type, so it makes perfect sense to me. My apologies  to Lord Byron and to my college Poetry Professor Otto Pfeiff.

I am not entirely happy with this one. Her eyes and lips were there from the start, but her nose never made an appearance. I tried several but nothing worked. Maybe I will give her a nose job in a day or two.

She Walks in Beauty

She walks in beauty, like the night
   Of cloudless climes and starry skies;
And all that’s best of dark and bright
   Meet in her aspect and her eyes;
Thus mellowed to that tender light
   Which heaven to gaudy day denies.
l
One shade the more, one ray the less,
   Had half impaired the nameless grace
Which waves in every raven tress,
   Or softly lightens o’er her face;
Where thoughts serenely sweet express,
   How pure, how dear their dwelling-place.
l
And on that cheek, and o’er that brow,
   So soft, so calm, yet eloquent,
The smiles that win, the tints that glow,
   But tell of days in goodness spent,
A mind at peace with all below,
   A heart whose love is innocent!

30 In 30, Day Eighteen

This is as self portrait. Sort of.

I started by just moving some paint around. A few minutes in, and her features started to reveal themselves to me.

I finished, and it reminded me of a sketch I have framed. When I was in grade school, one of my teachers did this for all of the students in her class. It must have been a gift for Mother’s day or for Valentines. I have had it since I was seven I think.

So what do you think, do you see a resemblance?

July Birthday Postcard Art

I am still trying to decide, if I maybe should have stopped painting, about an hour before I actually did.

What do you think?

I started out, planning to do some collage. But I started dripping paint everywhere, and got carried away. It does not show in the photo, but the fish are metallic, so they really stand out. I placed them in a 2 inch mat, and they look great! Unfortunately I am not sending them matted. Just a postcard. And a book mark for each of this months birthday gals.

These are for the Milliande Birthday Postcard Swap. If you are an artist, or just interested in seeing some great art, visit the site. There are tutorials, and many groups to join. Members are from all over the world. There is also a gallery, and you can post your art and even get great feedback. These postcards are on their way to Minneapolis Minnesota, Katy Texas, and Lompoc California. i used watercolor, gouache, acrylic and pen. The woman in the second card, does not really fit in with the theme, she just kind of showed up in the drips and splotches.

If you would like to see some really fabulous postcards, you have to visit Museum of Fine Arts Boston. Their collection has over 20,000 postcards available for viewing. Amazing Art!!! And you can even send epostcards, and learn a little about the history of the postcard.
