If this was a 30 day challenge, I would be at the halfway point. I would be looking at the down side of the hill.  But it isn’t, and I have a long way to go. Still, two weeks in and I am feeling in the groove.

I have two on the table. (Laughing allowed.) To be  honest, one of them is staring back at me whispering, “You can’t fix this.” So it will, be on the table a while longer.

I used the salt technique on the front range of #14. The effect is very subtle, but I do like the added texture. The sky is lavender, not sure if you can see it here, or if it just looks blue.

Yesterday was a grey, blustery day. Teasing rain. It was dark east of Mingus, and I am sure that side of the mountains saw same moisture.

The sky is a mix of the sap green and indigo in the hills, with a touch of burnt umber I think. There is some terrific granulation, really love it.

I made a calendar to help keep my right on the numbering. Did it three times, because I kept goofing. If you see an error, be sure to let me know. 😉

100 Days.

LYA side swaps

Janice Darby.

Janice Darby and Sherry Harmes are two of my longtime LYA swap buddies. I always look forward to seeing their incredible cards, and receiving them together was even better!

Janice’s gorgeous angel came from California. Visit her link to see more of her angelic creations! As you can probably guess, I love the colors in this angel card.

Sherry always comes up with the coolest ideas. This year her card is “quilted” pieces. A mix of papers, ribbon, a button and a silk flower. A supper sunny side swap!

Thank you Janice, and Thank you Sherry! I love your cards, and I am so glad we swapped! Can’t wait for next year!

Just a mellow Mingus Monday. I completely botched this. From bottom to top. What I tried, new for me, didn’t work. So I just spread the paint, and evened it all out.  Maybe that is why they call it a wash. Ha ha. I will try again.

I touched up #11. I reworked four shadow areas on Mingus. You might not even see a difference, but I feel better about it.  The dark areas at the bottom. In the “v” of the front range, and to the left of that. Also the two side by side shadows at the top. And the third shadow from the left. I softened some hard edges and lifted some paint to lighten some of those areas.

Still have two on the table, half finished. Maybe that counts as just one. I wonder if I will have two on the table all the way to the end.

I really like how this turned out. I delayed starting the second session, for fear that I would muck it up. The clouds. That wicked voice of doubt was telling me, “You can’t paint a sunset. You’ve never painted one before. It’s not going to turn out right.”

I learned a lot on this. Need to learn a lot more. Like timing, how wet the paper needs to be, how fast you need to work. It’s more chunky, and messy than I would hope. It’s more pink (Rose Madder Lake) and less peach.  (Gotta learn how to make a good peach). I maybe went to dark on the front range.

But EVEN with all that could be better stuff in my head. I really like it. What do you think? Oh and here is the reference photo.

I am feeling more organized with this project. Cleaned up my computer files, renamed the documents. A digital dust and sweep, ha ha. That’s a good thing, because the rest of my space looks like a tornado hit it. I added a gallery page for the project as well. It will be easier to look back, and see them all together.  I will be adding prices at some point. I have a busy week in front of me and I need to paint ahead if I can.

Oh, speaking of wind. We had a windy one the other day. And Mama Dove lost her nest. It fell into the neighbor’s yard. Very sad. And she has not come back. But we did have Robins eating the berries, and a hummer outside my window. And about eight Pronghorn sheep walking through the neighborhood.

LYA SIDES

The Liberate Your Art side swaps are starting to arrive. WOO WHOO!  I just love this leaf! The  warm and the cool, the crumbly textures. Awesome 😉 You can see more of Michele’s photography on her blog. Michele has multiple interests including fabric and fibers, surface design, stitching, weaving, and photography!

SS#1 Michele Matucheski

Kathy can be found at SolSisterStudio. This card started as a magazine page and gelli print. It has acrylic, oil pastels, Citrasolv and napkin decoupage. I keep hearing about Citrasolv. Really an interesting technique. This card makes me think of festive Christmas decorations. And that just makes me smile.

LYA SS #2 Kathy McIntire

Thank you Michele and Kathy for swapping with me again this year!! So much fun! I always look forward to seeing your creations 😉
