It’s official. I am a week behind. A WEEK. Oh well. No worries. I have two more that are almost complete. No really. I do.  But I am feeling I might abandon them, and start fresh.

Neither of these, #20, are finished in my opinion. They both show my limitations. Absolutely no sense of depth or distance. Ugghh!

I thought this piece was too busy. I wanted layers of texture. But I ended up TOO busy. So I started to bury the marks. Then I thought, well, maybe if I simplify the sky, it will calm the marks down.

In the second attempt, I added the few hills in, that are in the gold section (See photo). But it wasn’t working. So I “erased” those too. But now it just looks blah-bland. Or am I just stuck on being too literal?

So posting, and calling it done for now. But I will come back to this. I really do like Mingus in this. Maybe I will cut it out and use it in a collage. LOL.

This is the view of Mingus from the south. I was heading north on the 69.

These are a mix of acrylic and watercolor. Layers of color and patterns. Hoping to build more depth and detail. I went small thinking I would finish more quickly. But I put in just as much time as I have been on the larger paintings. I was having fun 🙂

I may add to these. Step back and return with fresh eyes. The sky in #16 is messy. For the last layer, I scribbled with Neocolors and then carefully wet, and moved the paint around. The last sky, #19 is relatively clean. You can see the progression from first to last.

Mingus Sunday afternoon.

Weekend tools.

Jam Session.

I have noticed on Instagram that there are several #100 participants that have fallen behind. I am not following all of those taking part, so it is safe to assume there may be more. This was the third week. Interesting to me, because it is always the third week in the 30 day challenges that is the hardest. And they say it takes three weeks to form a new habit. Hmm. Well turns out, that isn’t really true.

If this was a 30 day challenge, I would be at the halfway point. I would be looking at the down side of the hill.  But it isn’t, and I have a long way to go. Still, two weeks in and I am feeling in the groove.

I have two on the table. (Laughing allowed.) To be  honest, one of them is staring back at me whispering, “You can’t fix this.” So it will, be on the table a while longer.

I used the salt technique on the front range of #14. The effect is very subtle, but I do like the added texture. The sky is lavender, not sure if you can see it here, or if it just looks blue.

Yesterday was a grey, blustery day. Teasing rain. It was dark east of Mingus, and I am sure that side of the mountains saw same moisture.

The sky is a mix of the sap green and indigo in the hills, with a touch of burnt umber I think. There is some terrific granulation, really love it.

I made a calendar to help keep my right on the numbering. Did it three times, because I kept goofing. If you see an error, be sure to let me know. 😉

100 Days.

LYA side swaps

Janice Darby.

Janice Darby and Sherry Harmes are two of my longtime LYA swap buddies. I always look forward to seeing their incredible cards, and receiving them together was even better!

Janice’s gorgeous angel came from California. Visit her link to see more of her angelic creations! As you can probably guess, I love the colors in this angel card.

Sherry always comes up with the coolest ideas. This year her card is “quilted” pieces. A mix of papers, ribbon, a button and a silk flower. A supper sunny side swap!

Thank you Janice, and Thank you Sherry! I love your cards, and I am so glad we swapped! Can’t wait for next year!
