Day 13 – Leslie Saeta’s 30 Paintings In 30 Days

This is a quick one, as I am on my way to meet a friend. Pauline Agnew’s Open Studio has started, and I am always so inspired by her. She asked us to take a look at her Pinterest landscapes board and choose one that spoke to us. The one I found… made me want to play with color too.

Here is my painting for day 13. Watercolor and gouache on Yupo. Took less than 10 minutes.

Don’t you just love how the green is pulled towards the blue? I took a quick photo of that, I was afraid it would dry differently. This is saved at 72 dpi, so I apologize, some of the fine detail is lost,

The painting below was my inspiration. Completely different look and feel, due to the difference in mediums. I was not trying to copy… I just had to play with the blue. The blue is gouache, and the green is watercolor, and that may be why this happened. I am going to play some more with these two colors.

landscape-72Beautiful, no? I love the small bit of light, and there is a bit of turquoise in the sky at that point in the horizon, but it is not showing here. The link for this does not credit the artist, has only – Chicago contemporary artists, photo by Kathleen Patrick 2010(Flickr).

Hope you are having a super weekend. It is a HOT one here. If you love to look at art as much as I do, be sure and check out Pauline’s board… she has a lot of great boards. And take a look at today’s creations here.

I am having too much fun painting palm trees. I love palm trees. I love watching them move in a gentle breeze. Listen to their soft rustling sounds.

My favorite, is the Pineapple palm. They are short and stocky, and just as the name implies, they look like a giant pineapple. No wonder they scream vacation to me. Sunny Island, colorful drinks with slices of fruit and little umbrellas. OK, so maybe I watched too much Magnum P.I., but can you blame me?

I am calling this done, but I think I may go back in and add a bit to the shadow on the trunk. Any opinions? That dark line is bothering me. I did go in and add some dark to the trunk, but maybe it needs more. I need to create more of a curve.

I created an animation of my progress. Learned a few new things today! The only changes in the third slide are that I removed a stroke on the top frond, it was too long. I also connected the trunk to the fronds on the right side. Little tweaks that I think made a big difference.

Only five more days left in Leslie Saeta’s 30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge.

Hope you like the slide show!

This was a delight to paint. I am trying to capture the look of a sunflower I did early last month. In that I think the head is much too dark, but the petals are very nice. Just another reminder of one of the great things about painting. You can always try again!

I watched a video about being grateful each day. I think it is a great lesson for all of us. I know that in my earlier life, being grateful was not something I thought about daily. I was too busy with work, life, stuff.

But ever since my diagnosis in 2007 (Lupus), I am very aware of all the gifts I have to be thankful for. Right now, this moment, I am thankful for the view out my window. Fig tree, Bougainvillea along the fence, mountains beyond. It is not a view I get to see everyday. Dog sitting has its perks. While I am here, I am taking notice.

Remind yourself of one thing you are grateful for today. Or all the things.

While you are making breakfast.

Sitting in traffic.

Falling asleep.

You can sneak it in.

O give thanks unto the Lord, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever. ~ Psalms 107:1
