What a fun find! Lorie English recently posted this on Instagram, you can find her @recreated_now. Lorie makes fabulous upcycled handbags. She uses feed sacks, cargo pants, and colorful fabrics. For this one she found my 70’s Fab Floral in Avocado! How groovy! I love the simplicity, and the clean lines.
Looking through her Etsy site, LoriesBags, I was reminded of a favorite bag I had when I was about nine. It was 1976. The bag was navy blue, with red, white and blue stars on the wide fabric strap. The top flap closed with a metal twist clasp, and had a large “’76” on the front. It was about 8 x 8 inches, and “U” shaped, much like this one. I loved that bag. I’m pretty sure I wore it like a crossbody bag. And I vaguely remember collecting rocks with it that summer.
Spoonflower challenged designers to celebrate Chinese New Year with “Year of the Rabbit”. With this design, the color came first. Deep Shiraz. Or wine. Or burgundy. Take your pick.
With a dark base, the design elements were sure to pop. I started with a linen texture, and carried it through on the lanterns and hexagrams. The hexagrams are, “Prospering” and Radiance”.
For the rabbits, I added a subtle brushed gold effect. I need to check the swatch, the brushed effect might need to be increased. I was inspired by the silky, vibrant Chinese Qipao dresses.
The linen effect is hard to see here, you can check out the post on Spoonflower to better see it. Voting is now open, until the 24th. Prospering Radiance is off to a good start. I am grateful, and hopeful. 🙏😊🙏

Woo Who!
Can you believe it! February is almost here, and that means it is time for our 30 Days of Creative Gathering. I for one am excited. As you know, I have not been very productive artistically. These past few months I have been busy with behind the scenes admin tasks.
I am still undecided on a theme. As always. Haha. Landscapes? Collage? Abstracts? Well, you know me, I will probably do a little of each. Haha.

Can you believe it? We are starting our 5th year! Woo Who!
We already have two new members! Will you be able to join us? My fingers are crossed!
Have you ever cross stitched? I enjoyed it for awhile. Back before the turn of the century. I also made things with plastic canvas. I forgot all about that, until I started doing research for this challenge.
This pattern came together quickly. I found a cross stitch font I liked. I made the elements and decided to use a linen effect for the background. I made a repeating aida cloth pattern, but the cloth, and the cross stitch letters were not matching up. I’m guessing this is due to the spacing between the letters.
Once the design elements were done, I had to figure out how to make them look like cross stitch. Hmm. I found a few really good videos, and chose one to follow. She was great. Showed two different methods. Woo Who! I got the first method down lickety-split.
I wasn’t so lucky with the second version. I watched the video about 6 times, and took notes. Finally, I figured out that she forgot to mention one tiny little thing. It worked on my next try. Whew! By this time, I had the steps memorized.
My pattern has one major flaw. The stitch sizes do not match. If you zoom in you can tell that some of the pieces look smooth, while the stitches are more visible on the type.
I just figured out how I can fix this. 😆 Isn’t that always the way. I skipped a few steps in this quick sample, but I know what I need to do now. Woo Who! I can’t edit the design on the site until after the challenge. I will make the changes, and have it ready to upload next week.
