Leslie Saeta’s September 30 Paintings In 30 days Challenge, Day 23

I am working on some 4 x 6 postcards for an exhibition. Showing this one today because it was unexpected. I painted it with the red at the bottom. Too much water and not enough pigment left me with pink.

I turned this upside down and saw a man in a hat. He reminds me of the messenger boy in The Sound of Music. Do you think it looks a bit like Rolf?

When we first moved to San Diego. My folks took my brother and I to see The Sound of Music in Balboa Park. We sat on the grass, and I think we even had a picnic dinner. We were so amazed, because every time the planes went by, all the actors stopped. Everything just stopped. And when the plane had passed, they started back exactly where they had left off. It was really very cool. If you don’t know San Diego, Balboa Park is close to downtown, and right under the landing path of the planes.

Have a happy day everyone! Thanks so much for visiting me. Links to more art here.

Oh I had a bit of good news today. “GOLF SAYINGS: wit & wisdom of a good walk spoiled” is now available at Bookcollaborative.com, and on Amazon. I will make an announcement when you can peek inside the book. This is the second book my work has been published in, I will post more news about it soon.

I always remember this poem wrong. It is one of my favorites, but one word always gets replaced in my mind. Maybe it is all those years in Choir singing “Silent Night”. I was trying to be so sure, I would write the correct word on the canvas. As you can see, I goofed again. I am laughing at myself, I was being so very careful.

I am the quiet type, so it makes perfect sense to me. My apologies  to Lord Byron and to my college Poetry Professor Otto Pfeiff.

I am not entirely happy with this one. Her eyes and lips were there from the start, but her nose never made an appearance. I tried several but nothing worked. Maybe I will give her a nose job in a day or two.

She Walks in Beauty

She walks in beauty, like the night
   Of cloudless climes and starry skies;
And all that’s best of dark and bright
   Meet in her aspect and her eyes;
Thus mellowed to that tender light
   Which heaven to gaudy day denies.
l
One shade the more, one ray the less,
   Had half impaired the nameless grace
Which waves in every raven tress,
   Or softly lightens o’er her face;
Where thoughts serenely sweet express,
   How pure, how dear their dwelling-place.
l
And on that cheek, and o’er that brow,
   So soft, so calm, yet eloquent,
The smiles that win, the tints that glow,
   But tell of days in goodness spent,
A mind at peace with all below,
   A heart whose love is innocent!

30 In 30, Day Eighteen

This is as self portrait. Sort of.

I started by just moving some paint around. A few minutes in, and her features started to reveal themselves to me.

I finished, and it reminded me of a sketch I have framed. When I was in grade school, one of my teachers did this for all of the students in her class. It must have been a gift for Mother’s day or for Valentines. I have had it since I was seven I think.

So what do you think, do you see a resemblance?
