I could have posted this morning. I didn’t want to “cheat” by using a revision. But I spent a lot of time reworking this, and I finally just decided, it’s the work that counts.

I had the idea of going darker on the background, and thanks to Val’s 2nd of that notion, I went ahead with it. I am happy with the result.

Well, I wasn’t happy with it at first, so I tried to add a stem….

After seeing the result on-screen, (and trying three times to make it work) I decided it was better without. I am really enjoying working on this Aquabord. I have two that I botched watercolors on. I took off the paint, and because the board was stained, I spread a thin layer of white acrylic over the surface. It’s allowed me to add and remove many layers of watercolor. Fun, and interesting!

2016 INKed Calendar

I received my 2016 INKed Calendar today! I know I am a geek… but it’s so exciting seeing my work in print! INKed is a Facebook group, founded by Vicky Pratt, Katrin Dreiling and Diane McWhirter. The group is dedicated to encouraging and supporting artists and lovers of art.

I can’t really remember how I got into the group, but I am sure it stems from an invitation, and a meeting through the L.Y.A. postcard exchange. I feel like a bit of a cheat being in the group, because I do not work in ink primarily.  That much more of an honor to be a small part of this hugely talented group! I really admire these artists! You can see some of their work here.

I am “Miss December”. The two other pieces I submitted are co-featured (side column) on other months. I am certain I shared them with you before, but that is part of my “missing” September, so here they are again. Thanks Diane, Vicky and Katrin for your hard work putting it together!

Day Two ~ And A Short Tale

“I am on a roll!” Sheila said out loud. “Too bad it is going downhill and gaining speed fast.”

She had struggled all day. Painting, reworking. Ripping the failures into shreds. She worked through lunch. Skipped supper too. But the harder she worked. The worse the paintings became.

She decided it was time to stop. Time to admit defeat, for tonight anyway. She would face tomorrow just as Scarlet had – with hope and determination. Tomorrow is another day, after all!

Happy  New Year y’all! Welcome to another 30 in 30 challenge! I have looked forward to this since the end of September. O.K., I think it took me a month to recover from that challenge enough to think about doing it all over again!

But I have looked forward to January 2016 since December of 2015! DOWNTON! So while I might start to look forward to the end of the painting challenge at some point, I will also be simultaneously hoping that January goes on forever!

I have several ideas for a theme. Had. Have had. I can’t decide, and I am not really sure if I will have theme this time. I did not have a chance to prep in advance. But I did start painting a few days ago. I tried a few landscapes, as well as a few abstracts. Nothing very post worthy, so I thought it might be a good idea to stick with a subject I know.

I painted most of this with my fingers. Started with abstract yellow shapes, then green. Roughed in a pot. Spread colors around in the background. I used a brush to shape the pot. Also to lay down the purple base in the foreground, and the dark centers of the blooms. I added a last layer of a creamy white to the background and defined shapes with a pen.

Whew! Number one is done!
