What do you call a fish that wears a bowtie?
Sofishticated.
I like this as a wall hanging, but I don’t think it works as a tea towel. Weird I know. I think for the tea towel, maybe it should be crowded with fish, more and placed closer together.
My first idea was to make it look like a block print. I could see it in my head. But I just could not get it to work digitally. Maybe if I had used thicker lines, and marks on the fish. And made them look less perfect. I tried a technique to make them look as if some of the ink did not transfer, but it just didn’t work. I also felt the white was just too plain. Below are two samples.
Here is a close up of the detail in the final piece. Voting is now open. Fingers crossed.

Cute, cute, cute!!! 🙂
Thank you, thank you, thank you, Karin! 🙂
The blue text looks excellent on the block prints, but I feel it gets lost on the blue background. I think the joke is important to the piece, and if the answer were in red it would both draw more attention and balance the red bowtie. The variety of fish with patterns are wonderful, and the “sofishicated” fish wearing a bowtie is so cute. I see this more as a shower curtain than a tea towel, but it’s quite charming.
There you go, Teresa, a shower curtain. ;o) I thought about making that word red, but felt it might be too hard to read
in that font. And I wanted to keep the font. (It was hard to decide on.) I also considered adding a couple more red ties.
You are right about the joke as well. But for me, it is about the design, so I minimized that.
My thought is, that if someone were to purchase the wall hanging, that joke is going to get old fast.
And they might want to keep it hanging longer, if the joke does not stand out too much.
Happy creating my friend. Be well. 🙂
I think this is one of my favourites of yours. I wasn’t sure what ‘dad’ jokes were but I don’t think others knew either as some were joke about dads and some were jokes that dads would probably tell. I hope you do well with this one!
WOW! That is awesome to hear. Thank you, Val. 🙂 I was really unsure about this, after having to abandon my original idea.
I wasn’t sure either, what they meant. I had to look at what some of the others turned in to figure it out. Luckily some of them posted really early.
Happy creating to you Val! :o)
Sheila, the depth of color and use of contrast in this piece are strong and appealing to my eye! And that’s no fish tale!
Haha! 🙂 Thanks so much Dotty. So nice to see it through your eyes. 🙂
I fish you happy creating! 🙂
