The 30-Day Creative Gathering is in it’s second week. We have welcomed about a dozen new members. Hooray!
I have been working mostly in collage. The first three are collage, with acrylics, & watercolor. I started by prepping several pieces, building layers of pattern. I cut out vase shapes and placed them, then added paint and sometimes, more collage.
For day three, I also added “digital collage”. The original has collage, gauze, and painted pattern in the sky. I added the trees, the circle and the quote, in the computer. Below is the view that inspired this piece.
Day four I shared part of a pattern I am working on. I missed the challenge deadline, lost a day to an appointment in Phoenix. I will complete the pattern, though it may have to wait until next month. This is the bottom layer, there will be a floral layered on top. Time away also made me behind in painting for the gathering.
Back to collage on day 5. I was not sure about the “empty” space to the right of the vase. The pattern, and a stippled layer on top, did not work as I had hoped. I posed the question to the group. Eileen Vivell made some suggestions that got me thinking.
The changes were made digitally, the original remains untouched. I added a bit of definition to the pattern at the bottom left. I copied a leaf and placed it next to the vase. I didn’t like how the leaf pattern had been cut off. Eileen thought the lettering looked squashed. So I added more, filling the width of the piece. I do like this version better. What do you think?
On to week two!
So many beauties!!!
Aww, thanks Karin 🙂
Im enjoying your vases. The striped one on day one being a favorite. I also like the abstract on Day 4, not at all my colors, but somehow it works. That Mingus view is stunning; I had a hard time deciding whether it was a painting, collage or digital image. I would like to see some more of your Mingus paintings following on from the ones a few years ago. Your work has more impact and depth now, so a comparison would be awesome. Maybe in February?
So nice to hear Karin, so glad you are enjoying them. Day 4 is part of surface design. And I have changed to colors. LOL.
The Mingus was all of the above. Haha. Nice though, that you could not tell the difference.
I am not sure which ones you mean. I have some in the gallery, here. I did so many for the 100 days project. And some of them were very loose and… uncomplicated. LOL. It so awesome to hear that you think I am improving. I so often feel the opposite. Haha.
Thanks so much Karin, for your in depth observations. And for the idea for February’s gathering. ;o) Happy painting my friend!
You have been busy between your own submissions and keeping the rest of us informed and on track. So far my favourites are the landscape and the pink flower. Keep up the good work!
So glad you are enjoying the Gathering Val. Your work has been amazing, as always.
I’m so glad to know you like the landscape. I am still debating about that one, and it helps to know you find it appealing.
Looking forward to your next portrait! 🙂
Sheila, your day 6 piece jumped out and stopped me in my scroll—that angled vase top! spectacular! love the values contrasts, the contrast of sharp foreground edges against soft background movement, the solitary coneflower.
Haha, thank you Dotty. So glad you enjoyed it. 🙂
I needed to catch up that day, so a single bloom it was. LOL 🙂
I think it is my favorite as well. 🙂
Happy creating Dotty!
