Fifteen Blessed minutes of rain today. Hail, thunder, pouring rain. It started raining harder, and then stopped suddenly. As if someone had flipped a switch. Bizarre, and interesting.
Stayed muggy, no cool down. But the sweet, clean scent of rain was still appealing.
Both of these paintings are nearly all Indigo. The greys are what’s left after the paint ran off the page. I used granulating medium, and mixed indigo with a couple other colors, hoping they would separate on the paper. Well, it barely worked on #95. There is a hint of pure blue there. I need to do more experimenting with this. Looking forward to it!

I have shared this Yucca with you before. The real one.
Here it is now.
And here it is, with company. I have an idea for this as a mixed media piece. I just wish I could have seen what kind of bird these are. The shadow had them incognito.
Love that granulating medium and # 95 in particular. I look forward to seing more of it in your work. We’re so lucky as artists to live in this livly world of innovative product.
As for the rain, I think it is the sme storm we had. It was a heavy rain, short lived, but with one almighty thunder clap/lightening strike in the middle that must have hit just outside my window. I expected a tree to fall or the fire engines to show up any minute. The loudest noise I’ve ever heard.
WOW Sea! During the 2008 fires, the wind broke a limb off the tree outside my apartment. My back was to it and it was so loud, scared the you know what out of me. I loved on the top floor, and luckily the branch fell away from the building.
The medium is fun, I need to read up on it to learn different techniques 😉
#95 a real winner! Wow you are nearly finished! Love your blooming cacti!
WOW, thanks Carol 🙂
ha ha ha – incognito birds! It happens all the time as we are so often looking toward the light and they are just silhouettes. I like what that medium does to your watercolours – very cool. And, the yucca is charming. Happy creating Sheila
Very true Val. I could not make out their colors at all. And if I had opened the door for a different view, they would have been history.
I want to paint the yucca again. Still in hurry mode. I would like to do a more detailed piece. 😉
Enjoy your weekend Val, and your visitors 🙂
Sheila, love your experimenting with this and that. Your ‘grayscale’ Mingus paintings are striking, and such a contrast to color paintings of same. Thanks for sharing your desert world (so different from my seaside world) in paint and photo : )
Miss the sea Dotty! So glad you enjoyed the post, and so grateful you stopped by 🙂
