Busy working at my desk for a couple of hours last night. Needed an art break so I grabbed a small scrap of paper, watercolor pencils and crayons, and played with color. Pulled my watercolor box from its resting spot at the back of the desk, placed the towels in their usual work area. (They sit on top of the water cups when not in use)
Colored for a few minutes then reached for a brush and dipped it in water. Started to…
Right in front of me, and dime sized, black spider runs from under the towels, around the left side, and back towards the wall. I sat frozen. Sort of surprised I did not freak out actually.
UGHHH!
(Made a little graphic for presentation.)
I gingerly started moving everything off my desk. 5 canvases, a short stack of papers to be scanned, the stack of my mini’s in progress, and a stack with Lally’s class PDF’s and some odds and ends to read. Moved the art cart away from the desk.
I tapped everything first, so if the spider was there he would get the hint to move on. Threw everything on my bed. Then, when I did not find the spider, I realized that was a bad plan. Moved everything to the bookcase next to my desk.
Searched everywhere, moved the desk away from the wall. Because you know how I feel. It isn’t over until you have bug guts on your shoe. After a few minutes and no spider, decided to retreat to the laptop, and wait him out.
I purchased Karin’s recommended bug sticky pads. And am happy to report I did not see any spiders for about five days. And what galls me is that I just cleaned and reorganized my supplies and desk. Ugghhh! So yeah, I know. It is probably my fault. I disturbed the little bugger.
Oh, and I finally made a watercolor pencil chart. I had little scraps with doodles before. Now all the colors are on one sheet, and it is laminated!
After working for about an hour, and still no spider. I figured he most likely traveled over to the bookcase. Where all the desk items were moved. Oh great.
So, with my desk empty, at 11:30 I decided I might as well scrub the desk surface. Planned on doing it after I had finished these projects, but what the heck. Spic and Span now.
Put a sticky trap on my desk. Sorry to report it is pristine this morning. There is really no where he can hide, I checked the printer, back of the computer, wires, back of the desk. under the desk. I am sure he has moved on. But still, with no corpse, How can I feel comfortable sitting at that desk????? Stupid spider.
OK, as for the art. This was really just a warm up, before my painting session that never happened. It is looking blurry here, but there are some very interesting areas where the colors come together and mix and bloom. Neo II’s and watercolor pencils.
Working on Laly’s class today. I was so excited to paint last night. We celebrated my brother’s birthday this weekend, and the painting had to wait. First layer is on and the canvas is calling!
Enjoy your day everyone!
Love the colors, so bright, ink intense? Also the feeling of complete freedom. Can’t wait to see your piece for Laly’s class.
Thank you Carol. 🙂 Some are Inktense and some are the Neo II’s, and I think the green is a regular Derwent pencil. I am having fun with Laly’s. The collage part is so fun. Takes me back to grade school. LOL. Love your Laly piece! Happy creating Carol. 🙂
I see that you have company helping you in your artwork, Sheila… but believe me you don’t need any helper, you are so talented and creative. Have a super day!
Haha, maybe that is what he wanted! LOL, Thanks Louise 😉 And thank you so much for your kind words 🙂
I have really enjoyed your recent posts. So terrific to see those fabulous places, that I likely will never see in person. So pretty, and fascinating!
Enjoy your day Louise, happy creating my friend 😉
Thank you for your kindness, Sheila… By the way, when I was in Portugal, I noticed a “Delgago” Street 😉
How cool Louise 😉 There is one in Santa Fe New mexico as well. There was a Sheila Street in Wildomar. LOL You know what a Sheila is… Sheila — Australian slang for “woman”, is derived from the Irish girls’ name Síle (IPA: [ʃiːlʲə], anglicised Sheila). Have G’day mate 😉
Oh that super interesting, Sheila. I didn’t know about the origin of your name. Thank for sharing. Enjoy your day…
😉 Thanks Louise. I love learning about things like that too 🙂
Cheerful painting… I see yellow tulips coming out in spring, but I’ve been looking at a tulip catalog, so they are kind of on my mind. Hope you get your spider!!! My sticky traps always have something on them even after just one night. Consider yourself blessed if you have clean sticky traps. Probably means there are not too many critters running around. 🙂
I guess that is one way to look at it Karin. LOl. True! I put one down under my rolling cart, near the computer. Nothing so far. I have never had a problem this bad, Ants yes, now and then, but not spiders. I must be on a nest, or an intersection of nests. LOL. I don’t EVEN want to know. LOL. Hoping the cold weather will slot it down a bit, whenever that starts. So glad you told me about the traps!
I am so glad you see tulips! That came to me right away, and I had no intention of that when I scribbled the colors on. I am wondering if I will be able to keep it abstract… we will see. LOL.
Enjoy!
I saw a HUGE spider run down my kitchen wall, and behind my cutting boards..this was back in..oh, July, I think. I still haven’t moved those boards. NOPE. NO way!! NOT touching them. So, I think you’re incredibly brave, and wow..yeah.
I don’t know if it is brave, LOL. I just have to kill them. Still no sign of him, And I sat at my desk for hours tonight. Sat as far as I could, while still being able to reach. Stood some too, but then I had to worry about my shirt getting close to the edge. And I kept checking the underside of the desk. A few times. hahaha
So yeah… maybe there is a touch of small game hunter in there somewhere. LOL. Thanks Katie 🙂
Yuck – spiders and ants my two least favourite things to have in the house; I hope you catch him. I like your WIP – lots of colour and movement.
LOL. Haven’t yet, but I did kill a different one in the bathroom. ha ha. Thanks Val 🙂
Sheila! That spider! There is abundant thinking that spiders symbolize good luck, good fortune, good wealth. We’re gonna go with that : )
Happy to hear that you were doing some color play AND made yourself a homemade—and laminated, no less!—watercolor pencil chart. Hats off to you!
Eager to see what you’ve been doing as part of Laly’s class.
Happy bug-free creating to you!
LOL, Ah thanks for that Dear Dotty! Maybe I should go buy a lotto ticket ‘ey? I poise i will try to keep that in mind next time. 🙂
For years I have had little snippets taped to the lid of my Intenze pencils. Messy and disorganized. So finally, late one night, I got it done. I actually started by sorting pencils for my trip, then I noticed that many needed sharpening. One thing led to another. 😉
I got the first layer done before my brother arrived, and I have been dying to get back to it 🙂 FUN!
LOL, may you have a bug free creative day too Dotty! In love with your mountains!!!
Ha ha. I had the same thing happen a few weeks ago. The problem is looking for a bug with long legs that looks huge … forgetting how tiny they roll up when hiding. It took me ages to force myself into my bed for sleep. I’m sure he was more scared than me and had crawled into a tiny hole to disappear into the wall. Oh well like you I got over it.
It did strike me that if you find any more you could chase them across your wet palette and then over the painting and invent spider art! Make your fortune. It’s probably been done though.
That’s true Sea, He is probably hiding in one of the vents on the computer. Or in a crack on the printer, which of course is black too. My desk is across from the bed, and yeah, I was thinking as fast as he is, he could be on the other side of the room, and in my bed. So, put off getting in for a bit, and of course checked under the blankets and pillows! Happy and thankful to say nothing crawled over me that I know of. Someone else suggested spider art. That I should paint them. Creepy. LOL. I am sure it has been done, and I will gladly leave it to someone else to push that envelope! Hahahahaha. 🙂
Have a great one Sea. Those mountains were divine!
