Saved by the sky. I worked from bottom to top on this. First hill, quick success. 2nd ridge, quick disaster.  I added the details with Indian Red, but the wash was still too wet, so they spread into nothingness.

Added details again, paper was too dry, and they became hard edges. Went over the ridges with water, then added some indigo. Uggghhh! Went back in with more clean water to soften. Next, decided to add more of the overall color. That helped in some areas.

Debated about covering the mess in indigo. Still might. Thought that maybe a decent sky would help to save the piece. Lucked out there. So, two-thirds happy with this. Not bad.

I like the lights and darks you have put in on the back ranges – can’t be easy in watercolour! Love the clouds. Your landscapes of the Mingus Range are lovely.

I think you are too hard on yourself Sheila. I think the rust mountains are the best part: add a few more darks on the left side of some of them and soften a few of the edges and they will look great. Another suggestion is to tone down the bottom of the second range so that the front range will stand out a bit more. What ever you do don’t cover those mountains with indigo!!!!

I noticed that after I posted Val. I do need to make that stand out more. I will post the changes. The mountains are safe. LOL They look better to me this morning. Just needed to step away for a while. You made me laugh with your stern instruction. Thanks for starting my day with that Val :))

Thank you Carol. Looking at it this morning, I am more pleased with it. That ridge did not turn out as intended, but it is not as bad as I first thought 😉
Congrats on having your work shown at 3 French Hens! Beautiful work! I especially love the trees 🙂

Love hearing about process, Sheila, both for the we’re-all-in-this-creativity-gig-together aspect and because I’m not a watercolorist and know so little about it. I like the contrasts in this piece—you’ve got some simple, some more complex, some hardnesses, some softnesses, and bands of varied colors. Love the hints of lilac (at least on my screen!) in the clouds—I’m heading there to hang out and meditate. ooooooommmmmmmmmmm …

On top of that mountain, surrounded in clouds… ahhhhh. I know, you meant just floating in the clouds. 😉 LOL
You are right. I mixed a grey that turned slightly purple. I like it too. Those shadows should be darker in some areas, varied. But I am happy with them. Happy ooooooommmmmmm to you Dotty 🙂
