I was really happy with how this canvas turned out. I had the idea to add more color, and the Ocotillo came to mind. I used Derwent Inktense watercolor pencil (shiraz), and I like how the watercolor highlights the canvas texture. Keep it simple Sheila.

I LOVE this. Don’t know how I missed it, but now I see a few since that I have a few things to say about. But this design is so cool- I’m not familiar with this plant , but it can’t be any prettier than how you depicted it!
Thank you Laurie. I saw it for the first time last year. Most often they just look like weeds, but when there is water they flower and are very pretty. Have fun today 🙂
I especially like the background!
Thank you Rachel 🙂
The colour of your pencil is perfect for that interesting background. A really nice piece Sheila!
Thank you Val. My new favorite pencil, Shiraz. Have fun today 🙂
The last few canvases you have done with this colour palette reminds me of an arid environment – or at least what I think it would look like and I really like them. The inktense pencil you used for the Ocotillo is wonderful. Love the soft and sharp lines you made. I would love to see a series of desert plants. Happy painting today Sheila.
Thank you Janet. I am looking forward to painting more of these. Can’t wait to see your next one 🙂
Me too!!
Awesome 🙂
K.I.S.S.S. – Keep It Sensationally Simple Sheila! Love it GF!

Another innovative piece. Don’t you just wonder how how of this comes out of you?
Honestly, I do Nelvia! Have fun today 🙂
I love the idea of a desert plant series! Your image is very striking, a little other-worldly. Except for the colors I thought it was seaweed.
It could be seaweed! LOL. I have drawn seaweed before, for a surface design. Still working on that one. Have fun today Sharon 🙂
Lovely work with the inktense pencil!
Have a great an creative day, Sheila!
Thank you Martine 🙂 Enjoy your creative day 🙂
Such a delight to see where your new investigations are taking you Sheila. A series of desert plants would be awesome! This piece strikes me as a stepping stone—magnificent in its own right as a captured moment of being in place, and exciting as a way station to the unknown. I think it’s leading you into some fun.
Thank you Dotty 🙂 I have some surprises in store for the final week. Fun was had to be sure 🙂 Enjoy your Sunday 🙂
Interesting background Sheila and love the colours. The plant gives depth to the painting. I have also increased my botanical knowledge.
LOL, Knowledge is power. I just find all of that interesintg, desert plants. Medicinal properties, stuff like that. And who knew Ocotillo is good fencing! I really like the way the wash added depth. That was a nice surprise 🙂 Enjoy your creative time today Marion 🙂
Love this piece!!! The colors, composition and the delicate Ocotillo ! This should be a larger piece!!!
