Today Mingus could not be ignored. I have an abstract at the ready, But the hills, the sky, they were calling me. So here you have it.

The clouds were dreary most of the day. Solid and slow-moving. They hung over the mountains. While overhead there was sun and puffy, cotton clouds.

About an hour before sunset , it was partly cloudy, and most were bright white. Those are the clouds I tried to capture in the painting. As the sun was setting, the blue hills took on a deep red glow. Might have to paint that for tomorrow.

That is amazing – if I wasn’t already familiar with the view I never would have thought it was the same range. The colour of the hills in the foreground….and the sky. Great painting. So after seeing your acrylic abstracts with the palette knife Sheila, I would love to see a painting of the Mingus using these materials…..I love your watercolours – you are very masterful with the watercolour – not an easy medium to work in! Looking forward to seeing tomorrow’s painting. 🙂

Thank you Janet 🙂 You are a mind reader. I was thinking about that today. I was looking at some of the hills Georgia O’Keeffe painted. Need a larger canvas, so that will have to wait until I get back from the trip. I love your landscapes! I would like to work more with textures and building layers. Can’t wait to see your next post 🙂

Love the colors in the farthest ridge, especially against the blue of the sky. I would always get distracted by that view as well. Just gorgeous.

I thought of you when I added the purple Dotty. It is always fun to do, and a little scary. The paint looks much darker when wet.

I love the greens you mingled in with the blues on the back mountain, Sheila. And the sky, as usual is ALIVE. And I agree with you on yesterday’s-it feels restful to me, too….

Thanks Laurie, I really like those greens too. That is yellow ochre mixing with the indigo. Such a nice compliment for the sky, thank you. Your work is always so fresh and alive! Glad you like the soft piece as well.

What a view to have. No wonder you are drawn to keep painting it. Love the way you reflect the differing light conditions. Nice sky. I especcially like how you achieved the fluffy ones.
