First try of what I am sure will be many. Fairly happy with this, I like the sky. But I have an even number of divisions on each mountain. And matching to boot (four and four). I am sure that breaks a rule or two.
I am happy that I managed to stay light handed, and did not overwork. Think it could use a bit more visual interest. I was going to add a stand of trees at the base, but worried I would get the perspective wrong, so I left it alone. Next time.
I painted from life, not plein air, looking through my window. A mistake because the clouds changed the light every time I looked up. A reminder of why I admire plein air artists.
I worked for a bit reorganizing my work space. I will share photos when It is done. My last “studio” was in the corner of the room I had everything within reach, but most of it was semi-hidden from view. My desk is in front of the window here, and I don’t want to block the view or the light. It will take some time.

Here’s the opinion from the rule breaker… 😉 I think you do have a focal point, and it is right in the left bottom corner of the intersection in the rule of 3rds. My eye went right to this dip in the front green hills to the lovely gray mountain behind it. But I don’t know if I’m right or not, because I’m still trying to figure this all out… I love the painting! 🙂
If that is where your eye went, then it must be so! Keep breaking the rules Karin, you do it so well!! Looking forward to seeing the eucalyptus completed 🙂
First – a big thank you for leaving comments on my blog. I must apologize – I haven’t been as diligent about checking out the other post from the 30in30 over the last few days. Now that I have ‘found’ you , I wanted to let you know that I am enjoying your daily paintings. I have tried watercolour in the past and it is definitely not my medium of choice! I struggle with getting enough differences in value in my work…and a lot of other things!! I am looking forward to seeing more of your work in the next few weeks.
So nice to hear from you Janet, thank you for stopping by 🙂 I struggle with the same things, but I guess it is a struggle I enjoy, LOL. Have fun today with Leslie’ challenge! I look forward to seeing your work each day as well 🙂
A charming little painting Sheila although I agree a focal point wouldn’t be amiss.
LOL Thanks Val. On to try number two 🙂
I think you have created a bright cheerful painting that makes a person feel good just to look at it. I like the simplicity of it, trees might have taken away from that.
Hi Lana! I think I agree. Have a super weekend 🙂
The hill humps don’t’ bother me. Who’s counting
Love the color variations.
LOL thank you Carol 🙂
Love that this is the view out your window! The simplicity and calm of this painting are a balm to me, a welcome moment of grounding.
Very kind, thank you Dotty. :-.)
