Little hummer moving to and fro,
little mother,
a fine nest to show.
Watching, waiting,
resting as she might.
On full alert, day and night.
God Bless you little mother,
God Bless your growing kin,
Keep safe this tiny nest, and those within.

A huge lizard got too close and she attacked him. I managed to slowly open the front door and get a few photos without scaring her. We can see the nest from the front window.
Happy Spring!
How fortunate to see a nest, We have only the Ruby Red Throats here but they nest down by the lake. They do fight however, like little bombers, over the feeder until they call a truce and then fight some more.
LOL, we had one that would dive bomb intruders near the nest. Fierce little creatures!
Catching a hummingbird on camera is a mean feat! But they are so special aren’t they.
And thanks for your wonderful enthusiasm about my website. It took me so long build it and it is still evolving, cause I think of things then have to figure out if I can do them?Sigh… I wish it were easier! But then…
I’ve been away hence the delay in my response… umm cause I forgot to activate my g mail on my phone see I’m still learning….grin. happy spring to you too…
Here’s to learning Christine! Sometimes frustrating, but always interesting 🙂 I wish it were easier too 🙂 i don’t use my phone for a third of what it is capable of. But I am glad to have the camera for use! Enjoy your site adventures and Happy creating to you Christine 🙂
Don’t you love the size of the nests! So cool you caught this series and got to witness the lizard getting a piece of her attitude!
They are so tiny aren’t they Corinna? I’d like to save it if I can. There was one in the same bush last year, but it disappeared.
Lovely photos… hope she sticks with it!!! From my window I have an Hibiscus bush… Hummers sometime come and visit but each time I go out off they go… you were lucky to get the shots…
I have seen and heard about people being able to have hummingbirds feed from their hands. Wouldn’t that be something Carol?
Sheila, did you write this poem? If so, I LOVE every part of it. If not, I LOVE every part of it. Cool photos- thank you for sharing them!
I did, and thank you Laurie 🙂
I just put up our window hummingbird feeder today. I thought they hadn’t come yet but they’ve been here in our area since April 7th, so I hope I haven’t lost my bird following this year. I LOVE my hummers! This was wonderful that you got the photos, Sheila!
I haven’t seen as many lately, so it is fun to have this one to watch 🙂 Hope I get a peek at the babies 🙂
I’m jealous! My favorite research report ever, which I wrote as a sixth grade student at the American School in the Hague, and largely plagiarized from National Geographic magazine if the truth be known, was about hummingbirds!
NO, say it is in’t so! LOL. I thought for sure she was going to abandon the nest yesterday, the neighbors are having some trees chopped up, and it was so loud. And my folks were gardening as well. Stay tuned… 😉
