She Walks in Beauty
By Lord Byron (George Gordon)
She walks in beauty, like the night
Of cloudless climes and starry skies;
And all that’s best of dark and bright
Meet in her aspect and her eyes;
Thus mellowed to that tender light
Which heaven to gaudy day denies.
One shade the more, one ray the less,
Had half impaired the nameless grace
Which waves in every raven tress,
Or softly lightens o’er her face;
Where thoughts serenely sweet express,
How pure, how dear their dwelling-place.
And on that cheek, and o’er that brow,
So soft, so calm, yet eloquent,
The smiles that win, the tints that glow,
But tell of days in goodness spent,
A mind at peace with all below,
A heart whose love is innocent!

I love the poem and the art! Lord Byron was a Romantic poet! I saw a bust of him when we went to Nottingham castle , he was buried at his ancestral home in Nottingham (and thats all I know, lol) 🙂
LOL you know more than me Cindy!
I was an English Lit. major in college and Lord Byron was one of my favorite poets–well, all the English Romantic poets, probably Wordsworth most of all… Anyway, a beautiful poem exalting pureness and simplicity to go along with your painting of the same.
Oh I bet that was fun… studying…. 🙂 Glad you like it Jill 🙂 You had poetry in your post today as well. ha ha Disco yeah!
Sheila,
I’m really enjoying your ‘less is more’ approach. NIce!
Cool, thanks Connie 🙂
I had heard parts of this poem before, but didn’t know who to attribute it to. Wish I had had a Mr. Pfeiff to help me love poetry. I do like this one though and your “changling” art!
Glad you enjoyed it Pam 🙂
