I hit a wall last night. Worked for hours on a piece that went nowhere. Still working on it. Started this with leftover paint. Dripped some indigo, thinking it would be a landscape. Waiting for the paint to dry, I saw the simple form. My favorite flower.
Keep it simple stupid. K.I.S.S. You’re right Sandy… I went with the flow. Not really much transformation going on in this slide show, but it did take some work to smooth out the rough spots. The spadix looks dirty in some slides, and harsh in others. It is neither. I am thinking I may need to rework it and make it slender, but I like the way it echos the outer lines.
Don’t know what a spadix is? Neither did I until just now. Interesting, My favorite flower isn’t as simple as I thought.
From Yahoo answers:
Question- What is the yellow thing that sticks out of a Calla Lily?
It’s called the spadix. The colored foliage of the calla lily (what most people assume is the “flower” – the trumpet-shaped bit) is usually white or pastel colored. These outer colored leaves (trumpet) are known as spathes. The spadix – the middle thing or tapering yellow part – is the cone of actual tiny flowers.
I love the Calla Lily for its simplicity. Elegance, femininity, grace growing on strong stems. Worthy attributes.

Sheila,
I really like your “Keep it simple”!!! I think it is a very strong piece. I think the “wall” you hit was a very interesting one – I would continue to investigate that wall. :o)
Connie
Hahaha thanks Connie! I have that saying in my head… “banging my head against a wall”, ha ha ha
Day 8 must be a hard one for everyone. I, too, was so tired–work has been overwhelming this week and it’s bitter cold. Guess all who commented here made it through, though. (-: Your yellow and oranges melding together look beautiful.
It does sound like it huh Jill. Hope it gets easy for you… knock on wood, for all of us. I am ready to crash right now, but I need to write my post still…. rest well. Glad you like it 🙂
I’m right behind you. Sheila. I don’t know what it is about the challenge this time, but I’m starting to struggle. I’m usually way ahead of the game, but this time..nope. Mostly, I’m finding it difficult to blog..ack! I’ve got to snap out of it, but I’m not quite there yet. haha!! You lean on me, and I’ll lean on you..how’s that? We’ll make it through using the buddy system. sigh.
Sounds like a plan my friend! I had hoped to have three or four done in advance.. just in case. And I had been managing to get them done the day before, even with being sick! But here it is 7 pm, and I will be starting my second piece for the day… and then… gotta do the blog bit. Hang in there Katie!
Well done. Sometimes a fresh start is all we need. It has an arts and crafts feel to me and I love it with the dark drip marks.
I didn’t think of that, but you are right Christine. Thanks for visiting 🙂
