Trio. 3 x 3 Alcohol ink on canvas. © 2015 Sheila Delgado
Painting last night led only to complete disaster. I have three alcohol ink, and two acrylic pieces of yuck as proof. Oh well…
Today I started watching videos on working with alcohol ink. And after a couple of hours… finally I created something that I don’t have to be embarrassed about showing.
This was created on canvas. Wait, canvas? With alcohol ink? I saw a video where ink was used over a gesso base. I have two of these tiny canvases, and I thought, what could it hurt?
Here it is in the teeny-tiny fame that came with it. Too cute right? Whew, that is all I have to say. Now I can catch up on visiting the other artists blogs!

I have wanted to try the alcohol inks on canvas. I wonder if you created a slick surface with glossy gel medium if the inks would flow more easily than on gesso? I am eager to give it a try! I have also used the inks on clayboard and aquaboard with good results. I like this painting! It reminds me of happiness.
I think that will work Lillian. I think I saw a Youtube video on that. I could be wrong, I watched so many. The Mod Podge worked well, but I did try to reconstitute the ink in the center of the flowers, and it turned into a bit of a mess. I don’t know if that was just the ink, or if it had to do with the Mod Podge. I hope when you do experiment, you will tell us all about it
Sheila,
I missed this yesterday. NIce effort! To me, yupo is the easiest substrate to work on. Keep working…
Thanks Connie, I will. I had fun experimenting, so I don’t consider it a waste of time
I think It really takes a long while and many attempts to really get the hang of the alcohol inks! They can be very tricky and have a mind of their own, You are very brave for taking it on during the challenge while you are under the gun to produce. This little painting is a gem! I love your stick-to-a-tive-ness!
Still in total awe and wonder at what you can do with them Sandy! And June, and Connie…
Cool! Non absorbent surfaces
Yupo is better, but this was fun
It is cute! I put a coat of varnish on my canvas when I used the alcohol ink because from the few videos I watched they told you to work on shiny surfaces. I will have to try it without and save some time. Glad you stuck with it until you got something you liked.
this does give a shiny, slick surface. I’m not sure, but I think it dries faster than varnish, and I do Know that it does not smell as bad
I used my heat gun to speed drying a bit too. Had to stick with it Val, but thank you. I am going to finish no matter what
Very cool save
Thank you mate
