Day 9 – 30 In 30

This is an ACEO I started yesterday. I used leftover paint and plastic wrap on Yupo for a start. When I first removed the wrap this morning, I thought I had nothing. I sat and looked, rotated it. And the hand, right eye, and mouth jumped out at me.

All the shapes were there, I just added color to them. Last night, flipping through the channels, I caught a glimpse of Thoroughly Modern Millie. So I am thinking that is where the hat came from. Here are some samples of hats from the 1920’s.

Do you see what I see?

(Oh shoot, now I have Christmas music in my head.)

Ahhhh daydreams. Sometimes they are far better than the reality. This is the “What if” phase. Long before the “If only” starts.

Happy painting all!

Thanks again Karin. Do you mean the project or the materials? I am submitting art, for selection in an upcoming book (will be published next year) and this painting was done on Yupo, which is “plastic”, synthetic paper. I took plastic (Saran) wrap and laid it over wet paint and let it dry overnight. Then I took the plastic wrap off to see what kind of interesting “wrinkles” I had.

Well, you’ve combined “a few of my favorite things” – (a Broadway musical song that has been appropriated as a Christmas song, I guess because of the word snowflakes) – back to favorite things… Yupo, the Roaring 20s, hats, acrylic, and flappers! 🙂 Very nice. Yupo is fun, isn’t it.

It is fun Jim. I am slowly learning the ins and outs. I love old things, and old fashions. Always fun to look back. So hilarious that flappers were “outrageous” and “daring”. They were completely covered up and even hid their curves!

Hee Hee 🙂 ya got me laughin’ on the Christmas song in your head comment! 🙂 🙂 This is cool, Sheila. Love it. I love those hats from back then, so pretty. (My daughter wears a lot of hats, too.) You are lucky! Every time I rotate paintings around to ‘find a treasure to paint’….I see nothing!! I love the style of this one, very Picasso to me. (and remember…. I LOVE Picasso.) Have a great day. Good luck with Day #10.

They weren’t quite before, I had to add yellow and green acrylic, but it did the trick 🙂 Thanks Joan!

So glad you were laughing Joan 🙂 I wish I could wear hats, they are so expressive. You can change how people see you in an instant. I love your faces so much Joan, that you should see Picasso and anything of mine… WOW… awesome day!
