I should have named this Urchin Sea study#1. I am going to be really honest and tell you that the vision in my head, is not what you are seeing here. This was a great learning experience, I know what I will do differently next time.
The painted piece actually looks like this. I wanted pattern to be the dominant element. But when I saw the finished piece. It just looked, unfinished to me.
So I got creative in Photoshop. And part of the “mixed media” is the addition of a background. I placed yesterday’s painting behind the urchins, and I added slightly heavier borders as well. Very graphic, the black. Not very painterly perhaps.
I tend to lean to the graphic.
I will be painting this again. I have in mind the idea to use it as a repeating pattern. I used copper on two of the urchins, it never scans well. The grey looking color is actually a soft cream, and it looks better than it shows here.
I want to thank you for following my progress this month. I have so enjoyed hearing from you, our conversations really mean a lot to me. The best part of the challenge is that it is a shared journey, and new friends are often made.
Tomorrow I will be posting a collage of all the paintings I have done this month. For now, I will leave you with the paintings I have decided to submit for Bradford G. Wheler’s “LOVE SAYINGS: wit & wisdom of romance, courtship, and marriage.” Thanks so much for helping me make the decision.
Take a look at the daily gallery at Leslie’s blog.
This works really well. Your designs are quite beautiful.
Thanks so much Susan 🙂
I love the sea urchins!
Thank you Kathy!
I see the urchins…how cool!! Excited about your submissions. I know you will keep us updated on this, right? Loved doing the 30 days with you, Sheila!!! 🙂
Of course I will Karin 🙂 Thanks for all of your terrific comments, and for being one of my featured artists in the blog hop! I love seeing your work each day!
I have no idea how you added that background to Urchin Sea but I love it! What fun it has been following you in the 30 day challenge! Great work and be sure to let us know how the heart project works out! – Jim
It was added digitally, I deleted the original area, and filled with the painting. There a a few ways you can do it. So glad you like it Jim, and thanks so much for all of your wonderful comments this month. It may be a while before I find out about the book, But I will keep you posted. 🙂
