Working on my looseness. Another unsuccessful attempt. There should be more of a balance between hard and soft edges. Still I think this is a good painting. My Base is a little too dark, and it looks as if the vase is on the edge of the table. As a learning experience, this gets A.

I did manage to refrain from adding too much detail. I think I have just enough to suggest the individual petals. Good shadows, and shading on the vase. I would put this in a frame.

I may try this one again for tomorrow. Try to get more of it right, and less of it wrong.

I really do hope you have taken some time to visit Leslie’s art challenge. There are so many talented artists taking part. Beautiful, beautiful work to view. Stay warm out there!

I think you are doing great Sheila! This really has the essence of Hydrangeas! You could easily fix the table by just adding in a little dark at the top of it. I think this is a success and you definitely get an A!

You’ve definitely captured the hydrangea flower, Sheila. I’m also drawn to the background – those little blooms in a lighter wash of the same colours as the flowers are really effective.

I too find it useful to tackle a subject multiple times – often deliberately attempting to give each version a different treatment. It’s a great way tor really get to know a subject.

Thank You Vandy, I was wondering if I had the background to pale. I sketched this for a second go, but for Day 8 I am doing a different hydrangea. I have a notion to paint several different shades, so there may be quite a few Hydrangea’s on the way.
Thanks so much for sharing with me on this!

I like this one. When I saw the teeny tiny thumbnail over at Leslie’s site, I knew immediately these were hydrangeas! I think you captured this flower beautifully. And after I read your comment about them being placed at the edge of the table, I looked again and you are right…can you just add more of the table to fix that? I haven’t really worked with watercolors to know what I am doing … mostly acrylics… and when I find mistakes with my paintings, I try to fix it if the area is fixable. So anyhow, let me know… can you fix paintings with watercolor after the fact? Or is that a no-no.?

You nailed the hydrangea colors for sure on this one. So soft and delicate.

    Have fun with day #8.

Joan you read my mind. I am going to attempt to fix it. In watercolor, sometimes you can repair, and sometimes not. i will post the repair, or failure. 🙂 Enjoy your day 8 creating!
