30 Paintings In 30 days, Day One

Painting #1 for Leslie Saeta’s September 30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge. I started this on August 23rd and it has been sitting unfinished, because I thought I botched the background. I finally made the attempt to “fix” it. I scrubbed out the first layer which was Alizarin crimson and French ultramarine. Over that I layered Inktense Deep Indigo. I am so happy with the result. There is a hint of the red in some areas, and it brings a warm light in. I haven’t thought of a name for her yet, do you have a suggestion?

I have also added more layers to the canvas boards. I smudged, scraped, and applied paint with a twig. I took out some of the light colors, then added them back in. And I thinned the turquoise and then scrubbed a bit of that back on. There is a nice texture building up. I have lost count, but there are about eight layers so far. I have chosen some quotes from favorite poems, and I am planning to add those at some point. My hand lettering skills are a weakness, so I am crossing my fingers I can pull it off. Acrylic on canvas panel

Don’t give up, carry on! I can’t think of a name for her that’s better than what’s already been suggested 🙂 as for the paintings that you’re going to put words onto.. they would look good as is mirrored on spoonflower I think.. or mirror one 4 times, then put words on it and post it up as a ‘basic’ repeat .. I think t’d be cool 🙂

    Hey There Sheila,

I think she should have an old fashioned name. Something from the Jane Austen times. She looks very calm and gentle and sweet – someone you would love to have for your friend!

Day 1 was exciting wasn’t it. I posted my later than I wanted — but nonetheless it’s up!

    Enjoy Day 2.

Can’t wait to see what you paint.

Oh that is a great idea Joan! I was watching Pride and Prejudice last night too. The long one with Colin Firth. Jane? Elizabeth? Mary? Not Lydia. Maybe Emma, Louisa or Charlotte. Thank you so much for your compliments Joan! I looked for you painting… I will check again now 🙂
