30 in 30, Day Two

Today was a struggle. I started a 9 x 12 portrait. One that I have been wanting to do for a while now. Right now it is in the ugly-time-to-trash it phase. I was trying to paint large and loose. Well, after five hours, I can no longer hope for loose. The thing is, the face is looking pretty good, just the rest of it is muck. So maybe I can save it tomorrow, and crop it way down, and have the gift for a friend I was trying for.

I am reminding myself, that watercolor is a difficult medium. I know what I am doing wrong… but It is not helping me to get it right. It is 8:24. I need to post my piece here to be able to post it on Leslie’s site as well. Done is better than perfect. Sometimes. Right?

I am not happy with this either. I toiled diligently, so it is going to have to do. So happy for all of my friends who are participating! Your work today is so awesome!

    Hey There Sheila,

I say “Hooray for You!!”. You DID it. You completed a painting for Day #2 of the Challenge. Stand tall and be proud. And if you are anything like me… don’t and I mean don’t compare your work to others!! Surround your thoughts around only YOU. I can’t tell you how many times I, too, have spend five hours on a painting and have been very frustrated with the results, so frustrated, that I torn it up and threw it away or threw paint all around it and started over. Once I told both my daughter and husband that I did this, they got very stern with me. They sat me down and told me to keep plugging away and to NOT throw away my paintings because practice makes perfect and someday I will wished that I saved them so I could see day by day how much I would improve. It might be a slight improvement…but it is an improvement nonetheless! So, stand tall little trooper and be proud of YOU! That is what this challenge is all about for me – it is a practice, practice, practice. And yes, I look at all the amazing paintings being posted each day…but I also take a deep breath and remind myself I am doing the best I can and I will get there and somehow develop my very own style.

And BTW, I like your Day #2. I agree with Lucy – Be Happy With It. The colors are Great! I like the composition of your flowers. I like the designs on the flowers as well.

Looking very forward to seeing your Day #3 painting. You can do it !!!
